Hello to Everyone from Gelato! Art Salon!

Happy end of Summer and beginning of Fall to all!
This is a brief update from Gelato! Art Salon regarding some Gelato! Events and plans.
We took the past several months to organize, and rethink the direction that we’d like to see Gelato! head towards. In addition to that, Gisella Sorrentino and Garon Peterson, the founders of Gelato! Art Salon, took a long business/vacation trip to Europe. Gisella was accepted into a very large art festival in the north of Germany, and after that we went around visiting friends and scouting out new venues and opportunities for Gelato! Art Salon events in Berlin and Rome. More info about what we’ve done this past year and her show is posted on the homepage of this website.
Now that we are back, we are concentrating on redoing the website, by introducing a more interactive blog than we had before. The wordpress site we've always had is still active, however we've been slowly building up the weebly sister site as our new site, at least until we have the funds and time to have a site built specially for us. Please check out the website, as we are very happy to announce that one of our new features is an interactive Gelato! Community Forum, for NY and Abroad! This is the beginning of connecting our entire circuit of artists friends all over the world and exchanging views, events, and even places to stay when you travel overseas. We also will be sending out news bulletins as they come in on what, where and when our next events will be. I am writing several proposals that I hope shall take Gelato! to higher and more professional levels, Onwards and Upwards! These things take time, and luckily we have plenty of that : )
To all Filmmakers – Hello!
We will first focus on having a Gelato! Film Festival/Photo Slide Show in the fall, most likely sometime between the end of September and November. Jason Wicks will be curating the shows as usual. We are now accepting submissions in advance for upcoming shows. We are sending this email to you first because you have either been part of our previous Film Festivals/Photo Slide Shows or because you’ve met some one in Gelato! and they know that you are a good filmmaker! Please let us know if you’d like to include new film shorts or older works. Its okay either way, as it’s always a good time to screen a film no matter when it was made or how often it’s been screened before. There is always someone who hasn’t seen it who would appreciate your efforts!
We are striving to upgrade the quality of the film festivals and also include industry panel discussions and sponsor related demonstrations of products. We will send out details of exactly how in a couple of weeks. We are also asking all filmmakers that are accepted or who have been in past film festivals to kindly take a minute and cut a 30 second trailer of your project. This is very important. This will greatly help us to market the upcoming film festival and enhance the website experience for everyone coming to find out info about your film on our website! Include a video still.
China!
We have very much been looking into the possibility of going to China and having a Film Festival or Gelato! Event in various cities. One such possible opportunity is with a curator from China, Jing Liu, and he is very interested in bring some films to exhibit at a cultural center in Chongquing , West China.
The dates are not confirmed, but the Cultural Center hopes to mount the show at the end of November. If you are interested in submitting any work in this Film Festival, please check this link for info and send us via email a thumbnail video frame shot, a synopsis of your film and you contact info as soon as possible. We will put your name on the list for possible inclusion and send you additional info as it becomes available. Jing wishes to view all films by the end of September or first week in October.
Berlin!
In Berlin we had the pleasure to meet with an Italian friend who is setting up a small film production company. The idea is that the German government gives tax breaks to individuals with businesses if they support the arts community in Berlin. Our friend is a filmmaker who feels that this is a great opportunity receive a small grant to produce some short films for future distribution. The only requirement is that the film be about Berlin in some way, and that the director has a real interest to present and speak of the life in Berlin through the film. You don’t have to have a film about Berlin already in the can. You may submit previous films as an entry and/or a manuscript.
The selection process will be as follows: we will feature several filmmakers at two or three Gelato! Film Festivals and the directors most liked by the audience and our selection committee will be chosen for submittal to the short film production Company in Berlin. That company will then choose one or two filmmakers to work with in producing a short film in Berlin. Selected participants will have to be responsible to get to Berlin themselves. Housing may or may not be arranged by the production company.
This German production company is still in its organizing phase so we will officially announce our collaboration when it’s fully formed. Anyone interested in more info on this Short film grant opportunity visit our page on our weebly site and submit your info via the contact form provided, We will email you personally all the details as they become available.
Lastly. We are searching for venues to the upcoming Gelato! Film Festivals. If anyone has any suggestions, we would be glad to hear them!
Many Blessings to all!
A Presto!

Synopsis of the show and program
JIng Liu – Chinese Curatorial Representative in New York
My curatorial idea is very simple, I just want to present a choice as rich as possible of New York Artists. “I found that most of people who only lived in their own culture and society with one perspective to see this world, have a misunderstanding of things that are happening everywhere else. Art is probably one of the most the efficient ways to communicate with others. You find that the same art works will have completely different interpretation in different contexts. I think China and US are an example of such an opposite context.”
The tentative name is "The first video festival New York -Chongqing" (hope I am very interested in the part of misunderstanding and misreading which happens with cultural exchange .
Video and Animation is still a relatively "new" art form in China. It does not have the market effciency compared with painting. I think we can initiate a dialogue… ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Program will be run over two days/ two weeks/ from 12pm – 8pm – from 6pm -9pm Thursday Friday & Saturday in the last week of August and first week of September The Theme is: focused on…(new technology) What will happen to the films when the show is done, is there a catalogue you will send the artist, additional contacts with the filmmakers?
What do the Artists/Filmmakers get out of being in the show?

Full color posters, flyers and postcards featuring the names of the participants for the promotion of the show and distribute promotional materials to participating artists. Organhaus will also try to provide:
